The Class100 features a classic Full-size (100%) layout.

The top-right section houses a 3u brass enamel-filled badge, which is detachable and can be replaced with three standard 1u keys.

Additionally, the top forehead utilizes a polycarbonate (PC) strip design, reminiscent of the interchangeable character strips found on the vintage LK201.

MM Studio’s signature solenoid and buzzer have been integrated into the Type-C daughterboard and positioned beneath the PC strip.

The daughterboard itself features a spray-coated orange finish, allowing it to be faintly visible through the translucent polycarbonate material.

To fully utilize the light-transmitting properties of the PC material, we have embedded a long RGB light strip and the classic 3-key indicator lights beneath the Legend Strip.

The external weight features a design inspired by the classic VT220 Reference Manual (a motif also echoed on the Class100’s packaging and instruction manual cover).

(Note: For the Group Buy units, the enamel fill color on the weight will be adjusted to the original deep maroon/purplish-red, rather than the bright red seen on the prototype.)

The side profile employs a curved, recessed design. This complements the retro aesthetic of the large rounded corners on the front while making the keyboard easier to lift and move.

In terms of mounting structure, the Class100 utilizes a classic Isolated Top Mount system. Custom-molded silicone caps wrap around the mounting tabs of the plate, which are then secured using shoulder screws.

(The design allows for flexibility: it can be used as a Gasket-like structure by not locking the screws tightly against the silicone. You can also remove the mounting screws on either side of the spacebar to adjust the typing feel.)

Due to the wide-bezel design, we have also pre-cut slots for a Force Break mod between the top and bottom cases and included the necessary buffer pads.

Inspiration

Inspired by the LK201 (PC legend strip variant), the companion keyboard was manufactured by DEC (Digital Equipment Corporation) for various terminals succeeding the VT220.
